Pot Point Cabin

Guest Rating:

Vacation rental cabin / bungalow. Sleeps 10, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms. No pets allowed.

17805 River Canyon Road Chattanooga, TN 37405 United States

Located on over 400 acres of protected natural lands on the banks of the Tennessee River, the Pot Point Cabin was originally built in 1835. The cabin was constructed from hand-hewn logs and planks reclaimed from flat boats wrecked on the “Boiling Pot” rapid on the Tennessee River.

In 1993, renovations were made to the original cabin that included a great room with floor to ceiling windows that provide a scenic view of the Tennessee river, an upstairs bathroom with shower, a downstairs wheelchair accessible bathroom, and a small but serviceable kitchen. There are two decks overlooking the river.

This cabin comfortably sleeps ten (10), with 1 king sized bed in one room on the lower level, one (1) queen sized bed and (2) twins in another room upstairs as well as one (1) queen sized bed and two (2) single beds across the hall, in another room on the same level. Downstairs there is a large table that seats six in the TV/game room (the TV gets no channels, it is a DVD player), as well as a beautiful large farmers table in the great room to seat the entire family. The downstairs TV/game room and upstairs sleeping areas are all in the original part of the cabin built in 1835.

Maximum occupancy at all times is 10 people.

This property is about 12 miles from downtown, but sometimes feels further because of the slow, narrow, winding river road. The view is fantastic however, and provides a wonderful way to slow down from hectic daily life!

Across the road up the driveway a bit and to the left, this cabin even has its own Self-Guided Nature Trail. It is a moderately strenuous, 3.5 mile loop trail featuring some steep climbs and reaching over 1,000 feet in altitude around Azalea Point. Along with the recreational experience, hikers will be able to enjoy the rich biodiversity that is found in the Tennessee River Gorge.

Me and a group of friends had a great holiday weekend at the Point Cabin! It is a great location, not too far from town and located right on the beautiful Tennessee River. I would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting either a relaxing or adventures weekend.

My family was so excited upon arrival to spend our week in this cabin loaded with history!
During our stay we experienced a power outage due to a tree falling. We were without power all night and it never got hot.
The only downside is the road leading to the cabin.

Thank you for staying at the Pot Point House with us. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay! Weather does play a huge role in that area but fortunately the house does remain cool (when it is HOT outside) most of the year. It is a beautiful location on the edge of the TN River with a lot of family history. The original family that lived in the cabin owned most of the Suck Creek Property along the River and their initials are carved on the front of the house by the front door. We can not do much about the road to the cabin. It is extremely narrow in spots, winding with several blind curves as was mentioned in the description. It is definitely not a road to be driven quickly but it is a journey of Suck Creek cultural experience and you never know what you might see! We hope that you come back and see us again soon

The cabin is well kept and provides everything you need for an overnight stay. The kitchen is very small so if you are preparing to cook for many people it is a challenge. That was the only draw back. Other than the very small size of the kitchen, it is a nice place. Something not mentioned is that there is no TV or cable.

    • Manager Responded on 6/29/2017

Thanks for staying at Pot Point Cabin. We will make the lack of TV and cable and the kitchen size more clear in our description. The kitchen is a full sized galley kitchen with full sized appliances, but is small compared to the overall large size of the living/dining area for certain. The property does have WIFI which past guests have used to watch programs on their computers or hand held devices when needed. We are sorry the property did not meet your expectations, but glad our company did!

The only thing I was disappointed about was that the pictures portray the cabin to have a lot of open space on the river to fish and it did not. Also, the big tree that has fallen into the river is only good for hanging on and breaking your line.

My friends and I had a great experience near Chattanooga when we found Pot Point Cabin. There is a great view and access to water and a hiking trail just right outside the cabin. I highly recommend staying. The only downside is the drive out to the cabin is a little tedious. Overall, excellent spot for friends or family.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Pot Point Cabin. It is so wonderful for us to help the Tennessee River Gorge Trust have a resource that allows them to focus on conservation versus property management! We love having families vacation their and enjoy the hiking trail and the Tennessee River. Thanks for your kind words and come back anytime!

The house was exactly what we had hoped. The mattressesin the upstairs bed rooms we're comfortable. The bedroom on the right was so uncomfortable that I had to sleep on the downstairs couch a couple of nights to get rest. Poor lighting for reading. Add a few lamps. We would stAy again, bring our own reading lamps. I encourage them to change the upstairs mattresses. If not consider bringing a blow up mattress for comfort. Also no blender so bring your own.

    • Manager Responded on 10/11/2016

Thanks for choosing Lookout Mountain Vacation Rentals. We will be adding another blender (apparently the original one walked away)! The Pot Point Cabin is a wonderful property fronting on the Tennessee River and has it own set of hiking trails. We will investigate the king bed in the downstairs bedroom (this is the first complaint in more than two years). Also, additional lamps might be a good idea. Thanks for the review!
